DUSHANBE, 18.01.2026 (NIAT Khovar) – On 18 January 2026, at approximately 00:30, four members of a terrorist organization crossed the state border at border marker 151/2, on the left flank of the protected area of the 7th Border Outpost “Khirmanjo” of the “Yol” Border Detachment, located in Shamsiddin Shohin District, entering the territory of the Republic of Tajikistan from the village of Darbandak in Khwahan District of Badakhshan Province of Afghanistan.
As a result of urgent operational and search measures, the location of the terrorists on the territory of the Republic of Tajikistan was promptly identified.
The terrorists refused to comply with the border guards’ lawful order to surrender and offered armed resistance.
During the combat operation, all four terrorists were neutralized.
The following items were seized at the scene: three Kalashnikov assault rifles, one foreign-made pistol of the “Cruz” type, six magazines, 183 rounds of ammunition for assault rifles and pistols, three mobile phones, one radio communication device, and one boat.
The Border Troops of the State Committee for National Security of the Republic of Tajikistan declare with full responsibility that they will continue to employ all necessary forces and means to ensure the security of the state border and will deliver a lawful and decisive response to any border violations.
At present, the situation along the state border remains under control.
In connection with this incident, a criminal case has been initiated under Articles 179 (Terrorism), 335 (Illegal Crossing of the State Border of the Republic of Tajikistan), and 195 (Illegal acquisition, transfer, possession, storage, transportation, or use of weapons, ammunition, explosives, and explosive devices) of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Tajikistan. The investigation is ongoing.
