DUSHANBE, 30.01.2026 (NIAT Khovar) – On January 29, 2026, at approximately 19:30, within the service area of the “Bahorak” border outpost of Military Unit 0341 of the Border Troops Directorate of the State Committee for National Security of the Republic of Tajikistan, located in Shamsiddin Shohin District, five Afghan drug traffickers illegally crossed the state border and entered the territory of Tajikistan from Afghanistan.
As a result of operational-search measures, the movement route of the criminals in the given area was identified. The smugglers failed to obey the lawful orders of the border guards and, using weapons and ammunition, offered armed resistance and attempted to flee back toward Afghanistan.
As a result of return fire, three Afghan drug traffickers — Jovid waladi Davlatmand, Roshid waladi Davlatmand, residents of the village of Voricha and Sobir waladi Zohir, a resident of the village of Anjir, Chah Ab district of Takhar Province, Afghanistan — were neutralized at the scene.
Two other smugglers managed to escape toward Afghanistan under cover of darkness.
During an inspection of the scene, the bodies of three Afghan smugglers were found, along with three Kalashnikov assault rifles with four magazines, 150 rounds of ammunition of various calibers, a large number of spent cartridges, four sacks containing 73 packages of narcotic substances identified as hashish and opium, as well as one boat. All items were seized.
The Border Troops of the State Committee for National Security of the Republic of Tajikistan state that they are taking all necessary measures to ensure the security of the state border and are waging an uncompromising fight against border violators and drug traffickers.
At present, the situation along the state border line is under control, and the incident is under investigation.
In connection with this incident, the State Committee for National Security of the Republic of Tajikistan has initiated a criminal case under Articles 200 (Illegal trafficking of narcotic drugs or psychotropic substances with intent to transfer to another person), 289 (Smuggling), 335 (Illegal crossing of the State Border of the Republic of Tajikistan), and 195 (Illegal acquisition, transfer, sale, storage, transportation, or seizure of weapons, ammunition, explosives, and explosive devices) of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Tajikistan. The investigation is ongoing.
