Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu Arrives in Dushanbe
DUSHANBE, 28.05.2019. (NIAT Khovar) – Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu arrived in Dushanbe, where today, he will hold talks with the Tajik leadership on the modernization of the republic’s armed forces and the functioning of the 201st Russian military base.
These issues will be discussed today with the Minister of Defense of Tajikistan Sherali Mirzo.
The Founder of Peace and National Unity, Leader of the Nation, President of the Republic of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon will also meet with Shoigu.
Part of the talks will focus on upgrading the weapons of the Russian military base stationed in Tajikistan.
The 201st base is the largest Russian military facility outside of Russia. It is located in two cities, Dushanbe and Bokhtar. According to the agreement signed in October 2012, the base will remain in Tajikistan until 2042.
Earlier, Vladimir Putin thanked President Emomali Rahmon for his contribution and assistance in the work of the Russian military base, noting it as an important factor for the stability and security of the region, including in Tajikistan.
