DUSHANBE, 30.05.2025 (NIAT Khovar) – During the opening of the High-Level International Conference on Glaciers’ Preservation, Tajikistan’s President Emomali Rahmon issued a powerful call to action, warning that the world is facing an accelerating crisis as glaciers melt at an alarming rate.
“Climate change has already caused the loss of about one-third of mountain glaciers worldwide. This is not just a regional concern — this is a global emergency,” he said
President emphasized the deep interconnection between glacier loss and global systems, from rising sea levels to food and water security, migration, and economic inequality.
He urged nations to act in line with the Paris Agreement and to support vulnerable countries lacking the technical capacity to monitor and manage their glaciers.
