During his visit the Minister emphasised the United Kingdom’s (UK) commitment and role as a valuable partner in Tajikistan and the region through support provided by its bilateral and regional development assistance.
At the end of his visit the Rt Hon Desmond Swayne, MP said:
“The UK is committed to supporting the development of a stable, prosperous, and well-governed Tajikistan. We are finalising plans for a future programme of support focusing on governance, inclusive economic development and resilience. These are essential if Tajikistan is to meet its economic growth and poverty reduction aspirations.”
“I’m very pleased to have had the opportunity to meet with government, business and civil society to discuss the important work that has already been done and challenges they are facing. The UK’s support is already helping make a difference in areas such as agricultural growth, women’s economic empowerment and improving public financial management. ”
“The UK is also supporting Tajikistan through important regional projects such as the Central Asia — South Asia Electricity Transmission Project (CASA 1000).
