Japan, Tajikistan will focus efforts on the prevention and treatment of childhood diseases
Dushanbe, 09.03.2016. (NIAT “Khovar”). — On March 9, 2016, Chargé d’Affaires of the Embassy of Japan in the Republic of Tajikistan Mr. Takashi KAMADA and Head of the United Nations Children’s Emergency (UNICEF) Office in the Republic of Tajikistan Ms. Lucia ELMI have signed the Exchange of Notes regarding the implementation of the “Project for Prevention and Management of Childhood Illnesses in Tajikistan”.
According to Embassy of Japan in Dushanbe, for the realization of the project, 633,000,000 Japanese Yen (approx. 5,350,000 USD) will be provided by the Government of Japan to the UNICEF Office in Tajikistan. The official signing ceremony took place in the Embassy of Japan in the Republic of Tajikistan.
The current project aims at accelerating the gains and progress already made in infant and child mortality and morbidity reduction in Tajikistan. The new fund will ensure availability of life-saving vaccines and medicines for children at primary health centres, and will strengthen the national Integrated Management of Child Illnesses and Vaccination programmes.
