UN Secretary General, World Bank President Announced the Leader of the Tajik Nation a member of the UN High Level Panel on Water
Dushanbe, 11.03.2016 (NIAT «Khovar»). — According to the letter of the United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-moon and World Bank President Jim Yong Kim, the Founder of Peace and National Unity — the Leader of the Nation, the President of the Republic of Tajikistan H.E. Mr. Emomali Rahmon has been elected and admitted to the membership of the High-Level Panel on Water.
It should be recalled that the decision to establish the panel was made at the initiative of the Government of Tajikistan and a number of UN member states in September 2015 within the framework of the Millennium Development Goals at the UN session, as a continuation of the efforts of the international community in the implementation of the MDGs.
It is encouraging that the international community as a sign of respect for the efforts and the initiatives of the President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon in global water issues elected him among the leaders of 193 UN member states to the High-Level Panel on Water, consisting of 15 people, who are the heads of states — initiators in the water issues as well as 14 other politics have been elected as members of the High-Level Panel on Water, such as the leaders of China, India, the Netherlands, Hungary, Mexico, Singapore, Australia and other countries.
Membership of the President of the Republic of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon and other members of the High-Level Panel on Water began in January 2016 and will continue for two years.
Admission of the President of the Republic of Tajikistan to the membership of the panel is the further evidence of the leadership of our country and its president in addressing the global water issues, as well as strengthening the international authority of Tajikistan.
