Delegation of Tajikistan delivers speech at 30th special Session on world drug problem
Dushanbe, 20.04.2016. /NIAT «Khovar»/. The UN General Assembly kicked off on Tuesday a three-day special session on global drug issues to discuss how to fight the use of illicit narcotics. (the 30th Special session on world drug problem).
According to the Tajik MFA Information Department, the delegation of the Republic of Tajikistan, headed by the Minister of Foreign Affairs Sirodjidin Aslov and the Director of Drug Control Agency under the President of the Republic of Tajikistan Sherkhon Salimzoda took part and made a statement in this event.
In his statement, the Head of Tajikistan’s delegation has informed the participants about the initiatives and achievements of the country in the combat against drugs, and noted that the fight against drug trafficking is one of the parts of the struggle against organized crime, extremism and terrorism. In this regard, the Head of the delegation stressed the importance of strengthening and development of international cooperation with all interested countries and international organizations in this case.
UN General Assembly President Myogen Lykketoft said that combatting drug use is essential for public health, human rights and sustainable development as well as being a shared responsibility of the international community.
UN Special Session will continue until April 21, 2016.
