Dushanbe, 23.06.2016 /NIAT «Khovar»/. The Founder of Peace and National Unity — the Leader of the Nation, the President of the Republic of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon in the margins of the SCO Summit of Heads of State in Tashkent held a meeting with the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov.

During the meeting the presidents of the two neighboring countries discussed the state and prospects of relations between their countries, and exchanged views on finding the new ways to further enhance cooperation in different areas.

The President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon stressed the development of mutually beneficial centuries-old friendly relations between the two countries as a priority direction of the foreign policy of the Government of Tajikistan.

The sides noted with satisfaction the beneficial strengthening of the relations between the two countries, including increased volume of trade and the revitalization of the activities of the Intergovernmental Commission on Trade and Economic Cooperation.

The sides discussed the current regional and international issues, including the situation in Afghanistan, and focused on the relevance of regional security as a condition for the socio-political stability in the Central Asia.

At the end of the meeting, the President of the Republic of Tajikistan thanked the President of Uzbekistan for a warm reception and invited him to visit Tajikistan at his convenience.
