Permanent Representative of the Republic of Tajikistan called upon the UN member-states to support a new water initiative
Dushanbe, 06.10.2016. /NIAT “Khovar”/. The Permanent Representative of the Republic of Tajikistan to the United Nations Mahmadamin Mahmadaminov on October 4 has delivered a statement at the meeting of the 2nd Committee of the 71st session of the UN General Assembly, MFA Information department reports.
According to a source, presenting the position of the Republic of Tajikistan on the development agenda, the Permanent Representative underlined the necessity to render support to the countries with special needs, including the least developed countries (LDCs), landlocked developing countries (LLDCs) and small island developing states (SIDS). Ambassador Mahmadaminov also noted that in considering the sustainable development issues the priority attention has to be attached to water and climate change problems.
Wrapping up his speech, M. Mahmadaminov briefed the participants on the outcomes of the High-level International Symposium entitled “Ensuring that no one is left behind in access to water and sanitation”, held in Dushanbe on 9-11 August 2016, and has called upon the UN member-states to support a new initiative of Tajikistan on proclamation of an International Decade for Action “Water for Sustainable Development”, 2018-2020.
