Head of Customs Service discussed further cooperation with U.K. Ambassador
DUSHANBE, 10.02.2017. /NIAT “Khovar”/. The Head of Customs Service under the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan Abdufattoh Ghoib has met on Thursday February 9 with Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland to the Republic of Tajikistan Mr. Hugh Stanley Philpott.
According to the Customs Service of the country, during the meeting head of the given agency A. Ghoib noted that “Bilateral relations between the Republic of Tajikistan and the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland in the field of customs are established on the basis of normative and legal international documents, including the requirements of the World Customs Organization and World Trade Organization. These bases created favorable conditions to develop the foreign trade turnover between the Republic of Tajikistan and the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland at an appropriate level”.
It was noted that the trade turnover between the two countries in 2015 made 6.4 million USD and in 2016 — 3.7 million USD. Currently, a draft “Memorandum on cooperation and mutual assistance in customs sphere” between the Government of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland and the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan has been developed, and it is under the mutual agreement.
It is gratifying that the customs authorities of the United Kingdom intends within bilateral cooperation to donate technical equipment for customs control, which creates a solid foundation for the promotion and expansion of the activities of customs authorities of the Republic of Tajikistan.
Ambassador Hugh Philpott, in turn, having expressed satisfaction with the level and process of cooperation between United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland and the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan, including Customs Service under the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan, expressed gratitude for the warm welcome.
During the meeting both parties have also discussed the new priority aspects of bilateral cooperation.
