Official welcoming ceremony at the Hamad International Airport

DUSHANBE, 05.02.2017. /NIAT «Khovar»/. On February 5, 2017, the Founder of Peace and National Unity — Leader of the Nation, President of the Republic of Tajikistan, His Excellency Emomali Rahmon arrived for an official visit to Doha — the capital of the State of Qatar.

At the Hamad International Airport, the President of the Republic of Tajikistan, Emomali Rahmon, was welcomed by senior representatives of the Government of Qatar with a great warmth and cordiality.

The Hamad International Airport has been tastefully decorated with colourful banners inscribed with welcoming slogans. The guard of honor lined up on both sides of the red carpet.

It should be noted that this is the second official visit of the President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon to the State of Qatar upon the invitation of the Emir of the State of Qatar Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani.

Diplomatic relations between the Republic of Tajikistan and the State of Qatar were established on 13 December 1994. In order to promote bilateral relations to make further progress the embassies of both countries started functioning in the two states.

The first official visit by the President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon to the State of Qatar was held on May 2007. This official visit laid the ground for a new page in Tajik-Qatari relations for further development of cooperation between the two countries.

The former Emir of Qatar Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani paid a return official visit to the Republic of Tajikistan on August 2007. This was the first head of an Arab state to pay a visit to Tajikistan.

The legal and treaty basis of the relations between the two countries consists of economic, trade, technical, legal, investment, and other agreements.

A new package of documents on cooperation in the spheres of science, education, banking and other sectors are under consideration of both sides for strengthening of bilateral cooperation.
