Foreign Minister meets UN Under-Secretary-General and Emergency Relief Coordinator
DUSHANBE, 22.03.2017. /NIAT “Khovar”/. On March 21, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Tajikistan Sirodjidin Aslov met with the United Nations Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs Mr. Stephen O’Brien, MFA Information Department reports.
According to the ministry’s message, during the meeting, the Minister informed the USG about the natural disasters that occurred in Tajikistan in the recent months, as well as on additional problems associated with the heavy snowfalls in the mountainous regions of the country. The parties also discussed in detail the interaction between Tajikistan and the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs and the Office for Disaster Risk Reduction to build the country’s capacity for disaster preparedness and training of rescue teams.
In addition, during the meeting the parties exchanged views on the issues related to the impact of climate change on water resources in various regions of the world and the prospects for cooperation in the promotion and implementation the International Decade for Action «Water for Sustainable Development, 2018-2028».
