In the headquarters of the UN opened a photo exhibition on the 72nd anniversary of the Victory
DUSHANBE, 08.05.2017 /NIAT “Khovar”/. Photo exhibition entitled “Monuments: Keeping the memory of the long-gone war alive” and a reception to commemorate the 72nd anniversary of the end of the Second World War was held at the UN Headquarters in New York, according to the Tajik foreign ministry’s official website.
Commemorative events on the eve of that day were conducted by the permanent missions of nine countries at the UN: Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan.
This year members of the CIS organized an exhibition of photographs of monuments commemorating the events of the great Patriotic war.
In the lobby of the UN General Assembly was put up image of the monument of the Victory Park in Yerevan, the monument of Mehdi Huseyn-zade (Mikhaylo) in Baku, the Memorial complex «Khatyn» on the site in memory of the destroyed Belarusian villages and sculpture «Unconquered man», the Park named after 28 Panfilov heroes in Almaty, the monument to the victims of the Second world war in Bishkek, the memorial to the «Tragedy of peoples» in Moscow and sculpture «the Motherland calls» in Volgograd, Victory Park in Dushanbe, the memorial to veterans of world war II in Ashgabat and the monument of the Grieving mother in Tashkent.
One of the posters of the exhibition were also presented the following data: in the four years of the war under Nazi occupation were 672 cities in 8 of the 15 republics of the Soviet Union, have been destroyed or burned 1,710 towns and 70 thousand villages, 65 thousand kilometers of Railways, 32 thousand industrial enterprises.
The exhibition was attended by the ambassadors who organized the event, as well as other diplomats and UN staff. Opened the exposition of the permanent representatives of Belarus Andrei Dapkiunas and Turkmenistan aksoltan Ataeva, who announced a minute of silence in memory of those killed in the war.
UN Secretary-General antónio Guterres, in his speech noted the huge losses suffered by participating countries, and recalled that UN was created «precisely because of the Second world war. » «I urge all of us to live in respect for the meaning of existence, the origins of our organization. At a time when the world is in so many wars, we must, each of us, to do everything to stop war and avoid a new» — he turned to the guests.
