Leader of the Nation receives Regional Director for the Central Asia Region at the World Bank Lilia Burunchuk
The Founder of Peace and National Unity — Leader of the Nation, President of the Republic of Tajikistan, His Excellency Emomali Rahmon received today Lilia Burunchuk, the Regional Director for the Central Asia Region at the World Bank.
The new opportunities to expand bilateral cooperation were the main subject on the agenda.
The new World Bank Country Manager for Tajikistan Jan-Peter Olters was introduced.
President of our country Emomali Rahmon appreciated World Bank’s support for rehabilitation of Norak hydroelectric power plant (HPP), Dushanbe water supply project, as well as the assessment and consideration of circumstances of prevention of natural disasters and strengthening river embankments.
During the meeting, the two sides also discussed impact of negative external factors on the socioeconomic situation of Tajikistan, new partnership program for Tajikistan and the National Development Strategy of the Republic of Tajikistan for the period until 2030.
It was stressed that an increase of the World Bank’s preferential loans for the implementation of energy infrastructure, agricultural production, and support of the state budget on the social spheres could be an important factor for steadfast progress.
Cooperation in private sector, social and industrial infrastructure, and agriculture sector support project, increasing exports of agricultural products, creation of new jobs, and the strengthening of human potential in order to ensure quality economic progress was considered necessary.
A constructive proposal was also put forward on repair and reconstruction of rail transport and automobile roads. The strengthening of other areas of regional cooperation was also among the main subjects on the agenda.
