Tajikistan developed a National Action Plan to promote the implementation of the International Decade for Action “Water for Sustainable Development”
DUSHANBE, 20.09.2017. /NIAT “Khovar”/. “Efforts, which were taken over the past 40 years within the UN and other organizations, have helped to build up the process of access to safe drinking water, develop knowledge and skills in the field of comprehensive water resources management, strengthen cooperation and partnership in the field of water, form new positions and platforms for consideration of global and regional problems related to water”, — emphasized the Founder of Peace and National Unity — Leader of the Nation, President of the Republic of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon on September 19 at his speech at the high-level panel entitled “Towards implementation of the International Decade for Action “Water for Sustainable Development”.
“Progress in this area is undoubtedly noticeable, but we are lagging behind in mobilizing the necessary resources for the timely resolution of water-related problems”, — said President of Tajkikistan Emomali Rahmon.
“Moreover, we have to take into account the following factors that limit our subsequent cooperation. First, global climate change, which adversely affects water resources, weaken our efforts to achieve sustainable development. Second, creates additional difficulties and complexities of intensive population growth and its needs for drinking water. Third, cross-border cooperation is a key element in achieving sustainable development. Fourth, we also have to take into account the different gender aspects of the process of transition to the rational and sustainable use of water resources”, — noted Leader of the Nation and said that Tajikistan, as the initiator of the International Decade for Action “Water for Sustainable Development”, intends to establish a Special Center to coordinate the implementation of its activities.
“In addition, we have developed a National Action Plan to promote the implementation of the International Decade for Action “Water for Sustainable Development” and in accordance with it we propose to convene an international conference on this subject in Dushanbe in 2018”, — concluded the Head of State.
