Leader of the Nation Emomali Rahmon received defense ministers of the CIS member states
DUSHANBE, 12.10.2017 /NIAT “Khovar”/. The Founder of Peace and National Unity – Leader of the Nation, President of the Republic of Tajikistan His Excellency Emomali Rahmon received today defense ministers of the CIS member states who arrived in Tajikistan for participation in a meeting of the CIS Council of Defense Ministers.
The President of the country expressed his satisfaction with the results of the 25-year work of the CIS Council of Defense Ministers and underlined that over the past years of cooperation the CIS member states had accumulated a wealth of experience on the foundations of solid defence.
The meeting focused on the issues related to expansion of military and technical cooperation between the CIS member states in the framework of implementation of the Concept for Military Cooperation between the CIS Member Countries through to 2020 and the 2016–2020 Programme for Cooperation between CIS Member states on strengthening security on external borders.
In connection with threats and challenges facing modern world President Emomali Rahmon and CIS Defense Ministers continued their exchange of views addressing enhancing security and stability in Afghanistan, strengthening border security, combating international terrorism and extremism, illicit traffic in narcotic drugs, illegal immigration and combatting organised crime and other dangerous crimes.
It should be reminded that the CIS rotating chairmanship will be transfered from Russia to Tajikistan in 2018.
