Tajik athlete Somon Mahmadbekov won silver medal at 2018 Junior European Judo Cup Coimbra
DUSHANBE, 19.03.2018. /NIAT “Khovar” /. On March 17-18 this year, the 2018 Junior European Judo Cup was held in Coimbra of Portugal. At this tournament the Republic of Tajikistan was represented by known Tajik athlete Somon Mahmadbekov, who won silver medal. NIAT “Khovar” reports citing the National Olympic Committee of Tajikistan.
“Somon was the only representative of Tajikistan in this championship. He, in the weight category of -73 kg, won over athletes from Italy Komi Bedel, Portugal Joa Almeida, Netherlands Janner Van Der Kolk and France Hugo Metifiot, and advanced to the semifinals, — reads the message of the Olympic Committee. — In semi-final, he won over another Italian athlete Alessandro Magnany, and losing to Israelian athlete Ehenatan Elbaz in final, won silver medal”.
It should be noted that this championship was attended by 485 athletes of 26 countries of the world. According to the final table, Russia with 4 gold, 1 silver and 3 bronze medals ranked first place, Spain with 4 gold and six bronze medals – second place, and the Netherlands with three gold medals, three silver and five bronze medals – third place.
