Tajik judoka Somon Mahmadbekov won bronze at the Junior European Judo Cup
DUSHANBE, 22.05.2018. /NIAT “Khovar”/. Tajik judoka Somon Mahmadbekov won bronze medal at the Junior European Judo Cup held on May 19-20 in La Coruna, Spain.
According to the Tajik Judo Federation, Somon was the only representative of Tajikistan in this tournament. He, in the weight category 73 kg, at the first stage won over Czech athlete Adam Budzowski and over Spanish athlete Javi Ortiz Cabello, but lost to the Israel’s representative Din Jaakov Gemer. The Tajik athlete continued the fight for the third place. He won over Etu Heynonen (Finland), Anrea Spikuglia (Italy) and Aaron Giner (Israel).
We will recall that the Junior European Judo Cup was attended by 331 athletes (212 men, 119 women) from 24 countries.
In the medal standings, the Russian team with 8 gold, 5 silver and 10 bronze medals took the first place. The German team with 3 gold and 2 bronze medals ranked second place, and the French team with 2 gold and 4 bronze medals — third place. Tajikistan’s national team with one bronze medal took 12th position.
