DUSHANBE, 23.08.2018 /NIAT “Khovar”/. The solemn opening of the International Junior and Youth Tennis Tournament for the Cup of the President of the Republic of Tajikistan takes place today at 18.00 local time on the summer tennis court of the Central Republican Stadium in Dushanbe. NIAT “Khovar” has been reported by the Committee for Youth Affairs and Sports under the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan.

The International Tennis Tournament for the Cup of the President of the Republic of Tajikistan is dedicated to the 27th anniversary of the State Independence of the country and is aimed at promoting healthy lifestyles and involving youth in domestic sport. This year the tournament will be held for the 9th time, and will end on August 27. For the first time the Cup of the President of Tajikistan on tennis was played in 2009.

The sports event brings together junior and young tennis players from 10 countries of the world, including from the USA, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Kazakhstan, Russia, Uzbekistan, Ukraine and Tajikistan. “Last year more than 80 young athletes took part at the International Tennis Tournament and showed good results, which pleased tennis fans”, – the source from Committee noted.

It is worth to recall that the first children’s and youth tennis school in Tajikistan was established in 1955, since 1996 the Tennis Federation has been functioning in the country.

Now, 3 special tennis schools function in the education of future athletes in Dushanbe, Khujand and Buston (formerly Chkalov), which make a significant contribution to the development of this sport in the country.
