Statement of the Permanent Representative of the Republic of Tajikistan to the UN at the General Debates of the 73rd Session of the UN General Assembly
DUSHANBE, 02.10.2018 /NIAT “Khovar”/. On 1 October 2018, the Permanent Representative of the Republic of Tajikistan to the UN Mahmadamin Mahmadaminov in his capacity as Head of the delegation delivered a statement at the General Debate of the 73rd Session of the UN General Assembly. NIAT “Khovar” has been reported by the Permanent Mission of Tajikistan to the United Nations.
During his statement the Permanent Representative of Tajikistan to the UN noted the current global challenges, such as climate change, terrorism and extremism, large-scale conflicts, inequality, poverty, lack of economic opportunities and unemployment, and called them an obstacle to the achievement of Agenda 2030 on Sustainable Development.
Presenting the position of the Republic of Tajikistan on the global development agenda, Ambassador Mahmadaminov underlined the necessity to render support to the countries with special needs, including African states, the least developed countries (LDCs), landlocked developing countries (LLDCs) and Small Island developing states (SIDS).
Tajik Ambassador called for expanding a targeted assistance to Afghanistan aimed at economic rehabilitation, strengthening of the social sphere of this country.
The Permanent Representative of Tajikistan to the UN also briefed the General Assembly on the outcomes of the International Conference “Countering Terrorism and Preventing Violent Extremism” (3-4 May 2018, Dushanbe, Tajikistan), and the High level International Conference on International Decade for Action “Water for Sustainable Development, 2018-2028”(20-22 June 2018, Dushanbe, Tajikistan).
At the end of his statement Ambassador Mahmadaminov called upon the representatives of the UN member-states to support the draft resolution promoted by the Tajik delegation entitled “Mid-term comprehensive review of the implementation of the International Decade for Action “Water for Sustainable Development, 2018-2028”.
