Tajik Sambo Wrestler Takes Second Place in Championship
DUSHANBE, 19.12.2018. (NIAT Khovar) – A Tajik sambo wrestler Khabibullo Azizov took second place in the World Combat Sambo Federation Championship.
More than 2,000 spectators watched 150 sambo wrestlers from more than 16 countries compete this week in Kaspiysk, Dagestan, Russia.
First place was taken by the Russian sambo wrestler Rashid Vagabov (57 kg).
Athletes competed in seven weight categories, in particular in the 57, 62, 68, 74, 82, 90 and 90 plus kilogram categories.
Sambo is an acronym for self-defense without weapons. The martial art and combat sport was developed in 1920s in Soviet Union and used by the Soviet Red Army.
