Tajik Scientists Discover Two New Minerals
DUSHANBE, 13.12.2018. (NIAT Khovar) – The scientists of the Institute of Geology, Earthquake Engineering and Seismology of Academy of Sciences of Tajikistan discovered two new minerals, which were named Falgarit and Badkhshanit.
Falgarit K4(VO)3(SO4) and Badakhshit (Y) Y2Mn4Al (Si2B7BeO24) were discovered in the Falgar Valley in the Malik Mountain and in eastern Murghob district of Gorno-Badakhshan Autonomous Region respectively, reported Director of the Institute Ilhom Oymuhammadzoda.
Falgarit and Badakhshit were named after their place of discovery.
The Commission for New Minerals and the International Association of Mineralogists have already confirmed and recognized both minerals.
«Researchers are continuing their search for other types of new minerals in the above mentioned areas,» noted Oymuhammadzoda.
To date, Tajik scientists have discovered more than 30 new minerals, such as Tojikit, Surkhobit, Tyanshonit, Barotovit, Dusmatovit, Darayipidit, Fayzaitit and Garmit.
