What’s on in Tajikistan in 2019?
On January 1, the anti-crisis action plan, envisaged by the government of Tajikistan and designed to curb the rising prices for fuel and essential goods, officially entered into force in the country. A program to prevent possible risks to the national economy has been approved. The decree replaces the previously adopted anti-crisis program.
On January 13, Tajikistan will celebrate Idi Sada.
OnFebruary 3, a large seedling fair called The Fruits of Life of a Farmer will be held in Dushanbe.
On February 9, Dushanbe will host the Festival of Jewelers called Hunar Omuz! (Learn crafts).
On February 12, Istiqlol FC will play in the AFC Champions League for the first time in its history.
On March 2, the state television festival Chakomai Gesu will be held in Dushanbe. The festival will cover the whole country and will be held in three stages. It will be held in schools and institutions, then in cities and districts, and thereafter in the capital.
In April, the electric power capacity of Tajikistan will increase after the planned launch of the second hydro unit of the Rogun Hydropower Plant. The first of six hydropower units of the Rogun Hydropower Plant was launched in November 2018. Currently, the plant produces 100,000 kilowatts of electricity per hour, which can provide a quarter of the capital’s residents with electricity. With the launch of the second unit, the capacity of the plant will increase by another 100,000 kilowatts.
In April, all institutions and businesses in Tajikistan will be required to accept cashless electronic payments.
In May, the Kuli Dushanbe waterpark will be opened, with its capacity limit of 5,000. The total area of the swimming pool will be 158,787 square meters, with special areas for children, teenagers and adults. Football, volleyball courts and other centers are also planned around the lake.
On May 4, the state festival Sad Rangi Chakan will be held in Dushanbe after the inclusion of Chakan designs in the UNESCO Cultural Heritage List.
June 14 marks the last day of school. In contrast to the past eight years, school children will have autumn and spring holidays, which were abolished in 2010. During winter holidays, students will rest for two weeks instead of a month as previously.
On July 29, the Festival of national men’s and women’s clothes will be held for the first time.
In August, the Central Cathedral Mosque, the largest mosque in Central Asia with the capacity limit of 120,000 people will open its doors. The project was prepared by Tajik and Qatari specialists. The object consists of four 75-meter minarets, a 47-meter main dome and another 20 large and small domes. The building includes within it a library and a museum. The total area occupied by the premises is three hectares.
In September, a large universal sports complex will be opened in Dushanbe. The complex is located opposite the Omar Khayyam Culture and Recreation Park, between the slopes and hills of Luchob and the Dushanbinka River. The building will include modern indoor and semi-covered stadiums, tennis courts, large and small swimming pools and ice rinks.
Also in September, a new theater season of the Dushanbe Russian Drama Theater named after Vladimir Mayakovsky will open in a large hall. The new theatre is being built next to the Tajikistan Palace.
On October 13, Tajikistan will celebrate Idi Mehrgon, which in Soviet times was celebrated as Idi Hosilot (Harvest Festival). On this day, a theatrical performance, a fair of agricultural products, an exhibition of artisans and mass celebrations will take place throughout the country. Idi Mehrgon is one par with other festivals of the Persian-speaking people, originating in ancient times. This holiday celebrates the harvest season.
On November 3, a television festival-contest Oshi Palav will be held in Dushanbe. The festival’s purpose is to celebrate the Tajik culture of hospitality, to promote the art cooking, to protect national values and to show respect for the cultural heritage of the Tajik people in the framework of the Years of Rural Development, Tourism and Folk Crafts (2019-2021).
On December 14, the Ministry of Industry and New Technologies, the Academy of Agricultural Sciences, the Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and the Committees for Women Affairs and the Family, Television and Radio will hold a television contest of confectioners and bakers in Dushanbe.
