Tajikistan Celebrates 107 Years of Tajik Press
DUSHANBE, 11.03.2019. (NIAT Khovar) – Tajikistan celebrates Press Day today. A meeting to mark the occasion will be held in the afternoon at the Tajik State Academic Drama Theater named after Abulkasym Lahuti with the participation of media representatives, reports the Tajik Ministry of Culture.
The results of the contest for journalistic works and materials for the 2018 Abulkasym Lahuti Prize will be announced during the event organized by the Ministry of Culture and the Union of Journalists of Tajikistan. The winners from those nominated for journalistic excellence will also be awarded. The event will include a concert with the participation of Tajik artists.
Tajik press dates back to March 11, 1912, when the first Tajik language newspaper Bukhori Sharif (Sacred Bukhara) was published.
During the Soviet period, the Press Day in Tajikistan, as in the rest of the Soviet Union, was celebrated on May 5. In 1994, the Press Day was moved to March 11.
