84 Tajik children brought back home from Iraq
DUSHANBE, 30.04.2019. (NIAT Khovar) – Per instructions of the Founder of Peace and National Unity, Leader of the Nation, President of the Republic of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon concerning the prompt repatriation of all minor Tajikistan citizens whose parents had joined the Islamic State or other terrorist groups in Iraq, is under the special control of the Foreign Ministry of Tajikistan and Embassy of Tajikistan in Iraq.
There are 43 women and 95 minors of Tajik citizenship in prisons and juvenile detentions centers in Iraq.
With the support of Tajikistan’s government and in cooperation with the Iraqi and Kuwaiti foreign ministries and Tajik and Iraqi intelligence agencies, UNICEF and other international organizations, 84 Tajik children were repatriated on April 30.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Tajikistan expressed its gratitude to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the State of Kuwait, Iraqi Ministry of Foreign Affairs and UNICEF’s mission in Iraq for their support.
