Tajik Athletes Win Silver and Bronze Medals at the Asian Judo Championship
DUSHANBE, 23.04.2019. (NIAT Khovar) – Two renowned Tajik wrestlers Temur Rahimov and Komronshoh Ustopiriyon won silver medals at the Asian Judo Championship, which was held from April 20 to April 23 in Fujairah, United Arab Emirates.
To advance to the final round, Rahimov beat Rakan Zaidan representing Saudi Arabia, Mongolian Duurenbiyar Ulzibayar and the Kyrgyz athlete Yuri Krakovetsky. Unfortunately, as Rahimov was unable to defeat Kim Sung Min from South Korea in the final round, he was awarded the silver medal.
To reach the final tournament, Ustopiriyon defeated Davlat Boboev from Uzbekistan, Hebelige Buro representing China and Islom Bozboev from Kazakhstan, but was defeated by Kosuke Mashiyama from Japan. Ustopiriyon was also awarded the silver medal.
Ustopiriyon is a two-time Asian Judo Championship gold medalist. He brought home gold medals, in 2016 and 2017. Previous to that, in 2015, he took second place in Kuwait in 2015.
In the battle for third place, another Tajik athlete Shalarmamad Mirmamadov defeated his Kyrgyz rival and took the bronze medal.
