Tajikistan Participating in the 2019 Global Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction in Switzerland
DUSHANBE, 17.05.2019. (NIAT Khovar) – The sixth session of the Global Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction (GP2019), which is being attended by 3,500 representatives from 150 countries, is taking place from May 13 to May 17 in Geneva, Switzerland.
Tajikistan’s delegation is headed by the Deputy Prime Minister Mahmadtoir Zokirzoda. While speaking before the ministers of the participating countries, the Chairman of the Committee for Emergency Situations and Civil Defense under the government of Tajikistan Rustam Nazarzoda emphasized Tajikistan’s efforts in preventing and eliminating the consequences of natural disasters.
“Protecting the population from natural disasters is one of the most important tasks. In recent years, the government of Tajikistan consolidated the national protection system, which provides for the active participation of all branches of the government and all sectors of society,” noted Nazarzoda.
On May 15, Tajikistan’s delegation also participated in a round table on sustainable development goals and actions on climate change.
