Tajikistan’s Delegation Participated in the OSCE Session on the Political and Military Aspects of the Fight Against Terrorism
DUSHANBE, 08.05.2019. (NIAT Khovar) – The delegation of Tajikistan led by the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Zohir Saidzoda participated in the session of the OSCE Structured Dialogue.
In accordance with the agenda of the meeting, the head of the Tajik delegation delivered a key note speech on the political and military aspects of the fight against terrorism, reported the Tajik Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Saidzoda briefed the OSCE participating states on Tajikistan’s contributions to countering modern threats and challenges related to terrorism and violent extremism, as well as the process of implementation by Tajikistan of its obligations and commitments within the international and regional legal instruments.
In the context of the political and military dimensions of cooperation with the OSCE, Saidzoda expressed his satisfaction with the implementation of a number of joint projects and programs with OSCE, particularly the development of the National Strategy of Tajikistan on Countering Extremism and Terrorism for 2016-2020, the police reform, capacity building of the law enforcement officers in the management of stocks of small and light weapons (SALW) and conventional ammunition (CA), in addition to the humanitarian demining.
Referring to the issue of drug trafficking as the main source of financing terrorism, Saidzoda called upon the OSCE participating states to take part in the High-level Conference on the International and Regional Cooperation on Countering Terrorism and Its Financing Through Illicit Drug Trafficking and Organized Crime, which will be held in Dushanbe on May 16-17 this year.
