World Officials Will Gather in Dushanbe for the Conference on Countering Terrorism
DUSHANBE, 15.05.2019. (NIAT Khovar) – The Conference on International and Regional Cooperation on Countering Terrorism and Its Financing Through Illicit Drug Trafficking and Organized Crime will be held on May 16-17 in Dushanbe.
The conference will be organized by the government of Tajikistan in collaboration with the United Nations, the European Union, the OSCE and other international partners, reported the Tajik Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The foreign ministers, heads of bodies responsible for the fight against security threats and challenges, representatives of civil society, research circles and diplomatic corps are expected to take part in the conference, as are representatives of 50 states and more than 27 international and regional organizations. More than 200 foreign journalists will be covering the event.
The purpose of the conference is to promote and strengthen international and regional cooperation, identify effective practices to combat terrorism financing and facilitate expert discussions on how to respond to evolving methods used by terrorists and terrorist organizations to fund their activities and structures, including through illicit drug trafficking and organized crime.
The event will be used as a platform to discuss complex and multidimensional challenges facing the international community and facilitate the exchange of experience and in these fields.
Aiming at a strong and long-lasting cooperation between countries, the conference will highlight the need for renewed efforts for effective multilateral action through operational partnership and suitable joint responses to the challenging and emerging terrorist threats.
