Tajik Youth Wrestlers Win Two Medals
DUSHANBE, 06.08.2019 (NIAT Khovar) – Tajik wrestlers brought home the gold and a silver after competing at the World Championship in Greco-Roman wrestling, said the official representative of the National Olympic Committee of Tajikistan Umarali Safarali.
The competition was held in Bulgaria’s capital from 2 -4 August. Three athletes,- Firuz Mirzorajabov, Sheroz Ochilov and Jafarjon Zafarzoda represented Tajikistan.
Ochilov won a silver medal in the 65kg weight category. After defeating his Armenian opponent Arman Hachikian, in the quarterfinals, and defeating a US representative Robert Paul Perez, Ochilov reached the semifinals, where he beat the Iran Athletes Hojat Hasan Riza. In the final stage, Ochilov was defeated by the Belarusian athlete Dmitry Bonka.
Firuz Mirzarajabov also started the competition from the 1/8 final and defeating the Indian athlete Pravil Patil, went on to the consolation match against Poland’s Livia Thomas Skrzczyk, after which he won third place in the men’s bout against Russian athlete Umar Budaev.
Jafarjon Zafarzoda (71kg) was victorious in his first fight against the Moldovan Alexanderin Gutu, but still lost the competition.
