680 Natural Emergencies Occurred in Tajikistan in 2019
DUSHANBE, 07.02.2020. (NIAT Khovar) – In 2019, 680 natural emergencies occurred in Tajikistan, of which 46 were natural disasters. This was provided yesterday by the Chairman of the Committee for Emergency Situations and Civil Defense under the government of Tajikistan Rustam Nazarzoda.
According to him, 51.2% of 46 natural disasters were mudflows, 17.4% — avalanches, 10.9% — rockfalls, 4.3% — strong winds, 4.3% — landslides, and 2.2% — rising water levels.
“Foreign nationals also died in these natural disasters. Nine people died due to avalanches, 7 people due to mudflows, 3 people due to falling rocks, 2 as a result of strong winds, and 1 was struck my lightning. One-time aid totaling 22,000 somoni was allocated to all victims’ families,” Nazarzoda said.
Additionally, in 2019, 136 residential buildings were damaged due to natural disasters, of which 22 completely were damaged completely and 114 partially. The damage amounted to 31.3 million somoni.
