Tajik CESCD Warns About Avalanche Risk on the Mountainous Roads
DUSHANBE, 13.02.2020. (NIAT Khovar) – Heavy rainfall in the mountainous areas of Tajikistan and warming have increased the likelihood of avalanches and rockfalls. The tensest situation remains on the Dushanbe-Rasht-Lakhsh, Dushanbe-Chanak, Shamsiddin Shohin-Vanch, and Khorog-Ishkoshim roads, reports the Press Center of the Committee for Emergency Situations and Civil Defense (CESCD) under the government of Tajikistan.
Over the past day 17 cases of avalanches were recorded from the 54 km through the 84 km on the Dushanbe-Chanak road. Avalanches and rockfalls also occured on the Nurobod-Sangvor highway section.
The road services of the Tajik Ministry of Transport and the Innovative Road Solutions Co have allocated special equipment for disaster relief. The section of the Nurobod-Sangvor highway is currently cleared.
Intensive work is also underway to clear and expand the Dushanbe-Chanak road.
Rescuers of CESCD’s quick response units are regularly patroling various sections of roads in order to ensure the safety of drivers and provide assistance in emergency situations. These measures are necessary at times when the risk of emergency traffic accidents caused by avalanches remains high.
In this regard, the CESCD strongly urges residents to refrain from trips, travels to avalanche hazardous areas, as well as to be vigilant and cautious.
The CESCD is urging individuals to contact the emergency duty officer by dialing 112, 93 880 28 19 or 223-13-11 in case of an emergy.
