Tajikistan Can Play Significant Role in Managing All Climate Change Issues in the Region
DUSHANBE, 20.02.2020. (NIAT Khovar) – Tajikistan can play a significant role in managing all climate change issues in the region. This was stated by the Minister of Foreign Affairs (MFA) of Tajikistan Sirojiddin Muhriddin in an interview with the Adelphi Research and Consulting Center on Climate, Environment and Development.
The interview which took place on January 28 on the sidelines of the Green Central Asia Conference in Berlin, focused on Tajikistan’s strategic plans to combat the consequences of climate change, as well as on Muhriddin’s expectations from the Green Central Asia initiative.
“Our lives fully depend on water resources, on their quantity and quality. That is why we can say that Tajikistan can play a significant role in managing all climate change issues in the region,” Muhriddin emphasized.
“On one hand, we know that we have to do a lot in order to adapt to the issues related to the climate change impact for the mitigation activities, for example. On the other hand, we have to implement our collective programs and efforts in the region. Because climate change issues are comprehensive, it is not only a national issue, nor a regional one, but it is a global issue,” Muhriddin added.
He also noted that Germany as one of Tajikistan’s reliable partners is ready to support the implementation of joint efforts for the adaptation and mitigation activities.
“When discussing any initiative, first of all, you have to believe in the people and in the countries, who are cooperating with your country on these issues. This is important and we believe in this initiative,” Muhriddin said.
