National Nutrition Workshop Held in Dushanbe
DUSHANBE, 11.03.2020. (NIAT Khovar) – The National Nutrition Workshop was held today in Dushanbe. The workshop focused on the issues relating to reducing the level of wasting, anemia and stunting among the population, as well as ensuring food security.
First Deputy Minister of Health and Social Protection of the Population of Tajikistan Saida Umarzoda, World Bank representatives, heads of the UNICEF health department and other institutions attended it.
While touching upon the achievements of Tajikistan, Umarzoda noted that the health of the population is very important for each country.
“We must protect the health of the nation and create the necessary conditions. Thanks to the efforts of the state and development partners, the level of stunting, exhaustion, and anemia among children and women in our country has significantly decreased over the past year. However, studies, which were conducted in 2017, show that the indicators are not satisfactory,” Umarzoda commented.
The workshop participants were also presented with world statistics.
Despite declining indicators, 149 million children under the age of five are still stunted, nearly 50 million suffer from wasting, and 340 million have hidden hunger due to a lack of vitamins and minerals worldwide.
The implementation of food programs and the availability of health care, water supply, sanitation, education and social protection were mentioned as a solution to the problems raised.
