Strawberry Picking in Vakhsh Is at Its Hight
BOKHTAR, 16.04.2020. (NIAT Khovar) – Due to the warm weather, strawberries have ripened early in Tajikistan, and the harvest season has officially began. This berry begins to ripen earlier in the Khatlon province than in other regions of Tajikistan. The province’s farmers began collecting strawberries already in March.
Khovar’s provincial correspondent visited the Samijon farm in the Vakhsh district, where the cultivation of one of the most beloved agricultural crops in the world, — strawberries was underway. To date, four girls work in Samijon.
“In our farm we grow several varieties, such as the Russian, Dutch varieties and the Butterfly. We can harvest Dutch varieties all year round, which cannot be said about other varieties. There is a significant difference between them,” said the head of the farm Shahlo Miralieva.
Currently, the workers are actively picking strawberries of the Russian variety, and a little later the Butterfly berries will also ripen.
“While we are harvest one sort of strawberry, another is in line for the picking,” said Miralieva, who has been growing these berries for more than four years.
She decided to take up their cultivation spontaneously.
“People who live in rural areas have a piece of land that they use to cultivate vegetables. So too, we had land that I had to care for. Once I realized that I was good at growing strawberries, I began to get good harvests. Over time, we expanded the greenhouses, so that now I can’t complete the work alone. I had to hire assistants,” she said.
Today, the perimeter of each greenhouse is about 270 square meters, and in addition to strawberries, many vegetables are grown in each. Strawberries take up 34 acres.
The strawberries grown by Miralieva are sold today not only in the provincial markets, but are also exported three times a week to other cities and districts. Each time, up to 100 kg of this healthy berry is sold.
Miralieva considers the secret of her success to be the proper care of plants
