Tajik Ulema Council Announces Ramadan’s First Day
DUSHANBE, 21.04.2020. (NIAT Khovar) – The holy month of Ramadan will begin in Tajikistan on Friday, reads the Tajik Ulema Council’s resolution, which was released today.
Ramadan will continue for 30 days this year and it will end on May 23. Eid al-Fitr celebrations will take place the following day.
On April 17, the local Ulema Council had decided on a number of restrictive measures in order to prevent the spread of COVID-19 into Tajikistan, such as banning meetings – taraweeh, iftar, festive walks and other events.
Ulema Council also recommends giving zakat, sadaqa al-fitr and other donations should to the needy, orphans, homeless and the disabled and advises following the recommendations of doctors, the Ministry of Health and Social Protection of the Population and WHO during fasting and other ceremonies.
