DUSHANBE, 10.12.2020 (NIAT Khovar) – A specialist in minted coins of the National Museum, Doctor of Historical Sciences Davlatkhoja Dovudi came to the conclusion that there was a workshop for minting coins in Kulob.
Somewhat earlier, the scientist discovered several coins with the inscription Kulob, with an ornament on the reverse, found in the Shamsiddin Shohin district in southern Tajikistan, which is now kept in the National Museum.
On the basis of numismatics, he has determined that the coins date back to the 16th century.
Judging by the find, these coins were minted in the 16th century in the settlement of Iskulob, which was the capital of Kulob.
“The fact is that silver and copper coins were minted in Khatlon during the Samanid period in the 10th century, during the Ghaznavids in the 11th century, and during the Timurids in the 15th century,” said Dovudi.
The name of this province is written first in the form of Khuttal, and then in the form of Khutalon. These coins have also been found beyond this region. However, no coins were found with the inscription Kulob until now.
The important discovery is a new page in the history of minting coins in Tajikistan and Central Asia, as well as in the history of Khatlon and Kulob.
