DUSHANBE, 03.05.2021 (NIAT Khovar) – Due to the clashes on the Tajik-Kyrgyz border in late April, the Chairman of the Union of Journalists Zinatullo Ismoilzoda published an appeal to journalists and social network acrivists of Tajikistan and the Kyrgyz Republic.
“The Union of Journalists of Tajikistan, along with other civil society organizations in Tajikistan, is deeply concerned about the situation in the Tajik and Kyrgyz border. First of all, we express our condolences to the families of the victims and wish them patience in overcoming difficulties,” he said.
“According to professional and ethical standards, the task of the media is to provide impartial, fair and non-emotional coverage of events,” Ismoilzoda noted.
“Unfortunately, both in print and electronic media, as well as on social networks, information about the situation is full of emotion and hatred,” he added.
“We, as journalists, should not give in to emotions, but weigh all issues on the scales of justice and not be the cause of the flames of hatred and intolerance. By adhering to professional and ethical standards of journalistic activity, we should assist in providing accurate, impartial and free information to our viewers, listeners and readers,” he emphasized.
“Once again, we ask you, dear colleagues and social networks activists, to provide a realistic picture of the situation, an honest analysis and presentation of the material with verified facts and figures,” Ismoilzoda concluded.
