DUSHANBE, 26.06.2021 (NIAT Khovar) – Tajik servicemen, serving on the second line of protection of the Tajik-Afghan border, have been transferred to a special duty regime, reports the head of the Press Service of the Ministry of Defense Faridun Mahmadalizoda.
According to him, with the aggravation of the situation in Afghanistan, the Tajik Armed Forces will have time to move forward and together with the border guards protect the country’s borders.
“There was no additional transfer of equipment and is not planned, since the unstable situation in Afghanistan has long forced us to strengthen our military units that were on the second line of defense,” Mahmadalizoda said.
Over the past ten days in Afghanistan there have been clashes between government forces and militants of the radical Taliban movement in four border regions. Eight districts and two border posts came under the control of the militants.
On June 21, the Taliban attacked the Sherkhan Bandar checkpoint in Kunduz province. The total number of Afghan soldiers wounded, killed or taken prisoner has reached 100 people. Another 134 escaped after fierce fighting on June 22 to Tajikistan through the Panj checkpoint. Among them, four were wounded and one was killed.
