Dushanbe Hosts SCO Defense Ministers Council Meeting

DUSHANBE, 28.07.2021 (NIAT Khovar) – The meeting of the Council of Defense Ministers of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) will take place today in Dushanbe, reports the Ministry of Defense.
The meeting will be attended by the Defense Ministers of India, China, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan, Russia, Uzbekistan, and Belarus as an observer state as well as the SCO Secretary General and the leadership of the Executive Committee of the SCO Regional Anti-Terrorist Center.
According to the meeting agenda, the defense ministers will discuss issues related to strengthening cooperation within the SCO, the current situation in the region and the world, ensuring security and stability in Afghanistan, and on its borders with the SCO member states and other issues.
The ministers will also discuss issues related to the preparation and conduct of joint anti-terrorist exercises of the SCO Armed Forces, which will be held this year under the name Peacekeeping Mission 2021 in one of the SCO member states.
Yesterday as part of the SCO Defense Ministers meeting, Minister of Defense Sherali Mirzo and the Chinese Minister of National Defense Wei Fenghe discussed a wide range of issues of bilateral and multilateral military relations in the field of military-technical cooperation.
They also exchanged views on the previously agreed legal documents and agreements.
Minister of Defense Mirzo also met with the Defense Minister of Pakistan Parvez Khattak.
