Kurbonov Beats Kenyan Ochola at the AIBA Men’s World Boxing Championships in Belgrade

DUSHANBE, 29.10.2021 (NIAT Khovar) – Yesterday at the AIBA Men’s World Boxing Championships in Belgrade, three Tajik boxers entered the ring, including Khusravkhon Rakimov (57 kg) who faced Yilmar Gonzalez (Colombia), Saidikrom Amonov (67 kg) who went against Martin Skogheim (Norway), and Jahon Kurbonov (+92 kg) who boxed against Elly Ochola (Kenya), reports the National Olympic Committee of Tajikistan.
Of these, only Kurbanov managed to advance to the next round. In the second round, the he defeated his Kenyan opponent with a score of 4-1. On October 31, Kurbonov will fight a boxer from India in the third round.
On October 26, Tajik boxer Shabbos Negmatulloev defeated German Silvio Scherle in the 80 kg weight category.
Today, Abdurahmon Yokubov in the 60 kg weight category will fight against Roland Veres (Netherlands), and Parviz Karimov in the 92 kg weight category will go against Jamar Talley (USA).
Tomorrow, Bahodur Usmonov will fight against Ilya Shakirov (Russia) in the 63.5 kg weight category, and Abdumalik Boltaev will fight against Sumit (India) in the 75 kg weight category.
The AIBA Men’s World Boxing Championships started on October 24 in the Serbian Belgrade and will run until November 6. More than 500 athletes from 88 countries are taking part in the championship in 13 weight categories, which is unique in the history of the competition.
For the first time, the winners of first places will be awarded with medals, belts and $100,000 prizes, second and third places will receive medals, and $50,000 and $25,000, respectively.
