DUSHANBE, 19.11.2021 (NIAT Khovar) – In a recent report on religious freedom, the US State Department placed Tajikistan on the list of “Countries of Particular Concern” in terms of religious freedom along with China, Russia, Turkmenistan, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Iran, and others.
“We have repeatedly stated our position on such assessments, and we reiterate that such an assessment is not fair and does not reflect the real situation with regard to religious rights and freedoms in Tajikistan,” said the Committee for Religious Affairs, Regulation of Traditions, Celebrations and Ceremonies under the government of Tajikistan.
In order to eliminate such misunderstandings, the Committee has now officially invited the UN Special Rapporteur on Freedom of Religion to Tajikistan to assess the situation of citizens in their presence.
