Tajik Delegation Attends 65th Session of the UN Commission on Narcotic Drugs in Vienna

DUSHANBE, 15.03.2022 (NIAT Khovar) – Tajik delegation headed by the Director of the Drug Control Agency under the President of Tajikistan Habibullo Vohidzoda is attending the 65th session of the UN Commission on Narcotic Drugs in Austrian Vienna.
The session began on March 14 and will continue through March 18 at the headquarters of the UN Office on Drugs and Crime.
The event is attended by ministers and heads of drug control authorities of UN member states in a mixed (present and virtual) form.
On the first day of the session, Vahidzoda spoke on behalf of Tajikistan about the drug situation in the country in 2021, as well as on achievements and problems in the fight against drug trafficking and drug addiction prevention.
Vahidzoda also expressed concern about the threat of the spread of synthetic drugs and psychotropic substances, new methods for distributing these substances through social networks, an increase in the flow of drug smuggling into Tajikistan after the Taliban’s rise to power and, in this regard, the strengthening of the border of Tajikistan with Afghanistan.
Additionally, he called on the world community and international organizations to cooperate and support the authorized body of Tajikistan.
On the sidelines of the session, Vohidzoda held bilateral meeting with the head of the US delegation.
The meeting focused on a number of topical issues, including strengthening and expanding the agency’s cooperation with the US Department of Justice Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) in Central Asia, the resumption of the activities of the DEA Bureau in Tajikistan and funding for the agency’s employees.
Following the meeting, the parties expressed their readiness to expand bilateral cooperation in the field of drug control.
