Four Tajik Female Boxers Will Compete in World Championship

DUSHANBE, 04.05.2022 (NIAT Khovar) – From May 6 through May 21, four Tajik female boxers will take part in the Women’s World Boxing Championship in Istanbul, reports the National Olympic Committee of Tajikistan.
It has been 20 years since the first Women’s World Championship was held, and the number of participants is growing every year. Nearly 420 athletes from 93 countries are expected to take part in the tournament.
According to the Boxing Federation of Tajikistan, the country will be represented by four athletes, namely Sumaya Kosimova (-48 kg), Ruhafzo Haknazarova (-50 kg), Mijgona Samadova (-57 kg), and Shoira Zulkainarova (-63 kg).
The group will be headed by their head coach Mirzo Shamsiev.
Before the championship, the athletes attended the training camp in Uzbekistan.
The World Championship will be held in 11 weight categories. Its prize fund is $2.4 million. In each weight category, the winners and runners-up will receive the same amount as the men were awarded during the 2021 World Championship.
First place: $100,000
Second place: $50,000
Third place: $25,000
Tajikistan has one medal at the Women’s World Boxing Championship. In 2012, in Chinese Qinhuangdao, Mavzuna Chorieva won a bronze medal.
As part of the championship, an extraordinary congress of the International Boxing Association will also be held, at which the president of the association and members of the board of directors of the association will be elected. Two people have been nominated for the position of president of the International Boxing Association. The candidates are Umar Kremlev from Russia and Boris van der Worst from the Netherlands.
