DUSHANBE, 04.05.2022 (NIAT Khovar) – According to the Agency for Hydrometeorology, until May 6, unfavorable weather will continue in Tajikistan in the form of heavy rains, thunderstorms, hail, and strong winds, especially in the foothills and mountainous areas of the Districts of Republican Subordination, Sughd, and Khatlon regions.
The expected heavy precipitation can increase the likelihood of mudflows, landslides, avalanches, and rockfalls. In the coming days, there is a high risk of a sharp rise in the water level in the rivers, overflow of ponds and reservoirs, and flooding of floodplain areas. The most unfavorable situation may develop in the rivers flowing from the southern slopes of the Hissor Range — Yakhsu, Kyzylsu (southern) and Vakhsh, as well as in the tributaries of the Zarafshon River.
In this regard, the Committee for Emergency Situations and Civil Defense (CESCD) urges citizens to observe basic personal security measures, refrain from hiking in the mountains, picking mushrooms and crops growing in mountainous areas. Also, unstable weather will greatly complicate grazing and keeping livestock on pastures. The CESCD advises caution when choosing pastures.
In order to prevent accidents on roads, especially when using mountain roads and passes, the CESCD urges drivers who have vehicles with tinted windows to limit their movement at night, to comply with all traffic rules and follow the speed limit.
River runoff may cause flooding of low places, farmlands, washing of road sections, and there is also a threat to the safety of low-water bridges and dams.
In this regard, the CESCD asks residents to clean all ditches located near their homes, and likewise recommends people suffering from cardiovascular diseases to be careful these days and carry prescribed medications with them.
