Running Marathon Dedicated to the International Decade for Action “Water for Sustainable Development, 2018-2028” Starts in Tajikistan

DUSHANBE, 16.05.2022 (NIAT Khovar) – In honor of the International Decade for Action «Water for Sustainable Development 2018-2028» and the UN Conference on Water in 2023, Australian citizen Mina Guli plans to organize a running marathon in Tajikistan.
This morning, the first marathon of an Australian citizen in Tajikistan started in the direction of Panjikent — Ayni — Dushanbe, at a distance of 42 kilometers.
The running marathon in Tajikistan will last from May 15 through June 10. During this time, Guli will overcome 458.2 km in 11 marathons, get acquainted with the water resources of Tajikistan, including Lake Sarez, the Fedchenko glacier, the Rogun and Norak hydropower plants, tourist attractions, and will also take part in the high-level International Conference dedicated to the International Decade of Action “Water for Sustainable Development 2018-2028” (June 6-8).
Guli and her entourage were met on May 15 at the Tajik-Uzbek border in Panjikent by officials of the Ministry of Energy and Water Resources, the Ministry of Transport, the National Olympic Committee, the Committee for Tourism Development, as well as representatives of the local administration of the city.
Guli is an Australian environmental entrepreneur. She is the CEO of the Thirst Foundation, which is dedicated to water conservation.
