Tajikistan and Uzbekistan Hold Meeting of the Joint Intergovernmental Commission on Trade and Economic Cooperation

DUSHANBE, 31.05.2022 (NIAT Khovar) – Yesterday in Dushanbe, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan held a regular meeting of the Joint Intergovernmental Commission of Tajikistan and Uzbekistan on Trade and Economic Cooperation.
The Prime Minister of Uzbekistan Abdulla Aripov arrived in Dushanbe yesterday to attend their meeting.
He was welcomed by the Prime Minister of Tajikistan Kohir Rasulzoda and other officials at the Dushanbe International Airport.
Initially, Rasulzoda and Aripov held a one-on-one meeting.
The meeting focused on the situation and prospects for intergovernmental cooperation between Tajikistan and Uzbekistan, and issues on the agenda of the next meeting of the commission.
Then, the ninth meeting of the commission was held under the chairmanship of Rasulzoda and Aripov with the participation of delegations.
Following the discussion of the issue of the implementation of the decisions of the eighth meeting of the commission, the ninth meeting focused on issues of further development of intergovernmental cooperation between Tajikistan and Uzbekistan in the areas of economy, trade, industry, investment, banking, transport, energy, agriculture, customs, education, science, culture, healthcare, pharmaceuticals, tourism, youth, sports, migration, employment, ecology, and environmental protection.
The delegations also exchanged views on the most important issues of regional cooperation.
Interstate relations between Tajikistan and Uzbekistan have been steadily developing in all areas, and the results are significant.
In 2021, the trade turnover between Tajikistan and Uzbekistan amounted to $447.8 million, which is 34.2% more than in 2020. This figure was the highest in recent years and 37 times more than in 2015.
The parties showed interest in further increasing the indicators of trade between the two states and developing relations in all areas of interest.
Following the meeting, Prime Minister of Uzbekistan got acquainted with the activities of the Siyoma enterprise for the production of soft drinks and alcoholic products. The enterprise produces about 20 types of non-carbonated and carbonated water, as well as alcoholic beverages.
The Uzbek delegation got acquainted with the working conditions, new production lines and packaging of soft drinks, and also expressed interest in further trade cooperation.
Additionally, the delegation visited the Tennis Palace and the Water Sports Complex in Dushanbe.
The sports complex is the largest sports facility in Tajikistan.
It has two swimming pools — semi-indoor and indoor. Along with this, it consists of a universal tennis hall, which is designed to host national, regional and international tournaments.
During the tour of the сomplex, the guests noted the usefulness of a new stage in the development of cooperation in the field of sports.
