Tajik Athletes Complete Konya Islamic Solidarity Games with Three Silver and Five Bronze Medals

DUSHANBE, 19.08.2022 (NIAT Khovar) – Yesterday evening, Fifth Islamic Solidarity Games completed in Konya with a solemn ceremony.
Tajik Olympic team, consisting of 46 athletes, took part in 8 sports, and won 8 medals, including 3 silver and 5 bronze.
“We were very happy to welcome thousands of our brothers to Turkiye. There were no losers in these competitions, brotherhood and unity won. All guests from this majestic city of Konya will return to their countries with unforgettable memories,” said Minister of Youth and Sports of Turkiye Mehmet Muharram Kasapoglu during the closing ceremony of the Games.
Prince Abdulaziz bin Turki Al Faisal, Chairman of the International Islamic Solidarity Sports Federation (ISSF) and President of the Saudi Arabian Olympic Committee, thanked everyone who contributed to the Games. “Solidarity is our name, peace is our language, our the way is an honorable competition on sports grounds. Thank you Konya!,” he said.
Kasapoglu then handed over the flag of the Islamic Solidarity Sports Federation to Al Faisal.
The closing ceremony ended with an artistic program.
The next Islamic Solidarity Games will be held in 2025 in the capital of Cameroon — Yaounde.
At the Fifth Islamic Solidarity Games, Turkiye took first place in terms of the number of medals. Its athletes won 341 medals (145 gold, 107 silver, 89 bronze). Uzbekistan ranked second with 51 gold, 42 silver and 65 bronze medals (158 medals), Iran took third with 39 gold, 44 silver and 50 bronze medals (133 medals).
The top ten also included Azerbaijan (99 medals), Kazakhstan (89 medals), Morocco (62 medals), Indonesia (56 medals), Kyrgyzstan (32 medals), Bahrain (23 medals), Algeria (42 medals). In general, athletes from 44 countries won medals, including 28 countries that won gold medals.
Tajikistan took 29th place among 54 participating countries with 3 silver and 5 bronze medals.
