Tajik Athletes Win 7 Medals at the First Asian Senior Gushtingiri Championship

DUSHANBE, 29.06.2023 (NIAT Khovar) – Tajik athletes won 7 medals, including 3 gold, 2 silver and 2 bronze, at the first Asian Senior Gushtingiri Championship, which was held on June 27 at the Dushanbe Tennis Palace and Water Sports Complex.
The championship was attended by more than 100 athletes from 28 countries, including from Tajikistan, Malaysia, Oman, Pakistan, United Arab Emirates, India, Indonesia, Kuwait, Lebanon, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, South Korea, Turkmenistan, Thailand, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Chinese Taipei, Bangladesh, Syria, Kazakhstan, China, Mongolia, Russia, Azerbaijan, Vietnam, Iraq, Iran, Sri Lanka and Jordan.
Tajikistan was represented by 20 athletes — Mulorajab Khalifaev, Khursankul Kuganov, Hamroz Rajabov, Karomatullo Hakimov, Haknazar Nazarov, Bahrom Sufiyev, Karimzod Navruz, Muhiddin Asadulloev, Abdullo Orif, Firdavs Olimov, Tuychi Sharifov, Farhod Rahmatullobekov, Muslimbek Karimov, Umar Rasulov, Haidari Saidkabirzoda, Mirzojamil Ramazonov, Rashid Ziyobekov, Khurshed Majidov, Shohida Kalandarova and Mavluda Odinaeva.
The total prize fund amounted to $80,000. Along with medals, the winners and prize-winners were awarded cash prizes on behalf of the Chairman of Dushanbe Rustam Emomali. The first-place winner received $5,000, the second-place winner $3,000, and the two third-place winners $1,500.
Also, a separate amount of money was determined for the team cups, $1,500 for first place, $1,000 for second place, and $500 for third place. As a team member, the gushtingiri team of Tajikistan won 7 medals, including 3 gold, 2 silver and 2 bronze. The second place was taken by Uzbekistan, and the third place by Iran.
The competitions were held in 6 weight categories. Men competed in five weight categories, and women in one.
